BATTLE ON UNPARALELLED QUADRUPLE-HEADER

ON MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND

SEPTEMBER 15 AT MGM GRAND & LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

LOS ANGELES (July 17, 2012) – The stacked September 15 “Knockout Kings” quadruple-header at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. just got another shot of pugilistic adrenaline, with the addition of former Super Lightweight World Champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana. The champion continues his quest for a second world title at 147 pounds in what promises to be an action-packed showdown against Mexico’s Jesus Soto Karass.

This 12-round special attraction is the third fight announced for what is shaping up to be the most exciting boxing event of 2012, with the fourth fight scheduled to be announced in the near future.

“Knockout Kings,” headlined by Canelo Alvarez defending his WBC Super Welterweight World Championship against Josesito Lopez, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions in association with Goossen Tutor Promotions and Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Corona, DeWalt Tools and AT&T. In the co-featured attractions, WBC Featherweight World Champion Jhonny Gonzalez defends his crown against former World Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon in fight presented in association with Promociones Del Pueblo and former World Champion Marcos Maidana faces perennial contender Jesus Soto Karass in a fight presented in association with Universum Box-Promotion. The Saturday, Sept. 15 quadruple-header, packed with Mexican pride and power, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. and will be televised live on SHOWTIME.

SHOWTIME Sports will produce a new edition of its ALL ACESS sports documentary series. ALL ACCESS: Canelo vs. Lopez will premiere on SHOWTIME with multiple replays on additional SHOWTIME and CBS platforms. The exhibition schedule also will be announced shortly.

“This fight is a great match-up which has ‘Fight of the Year’ written all over it,” said Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions. “Both of these fighters hit with power, have great chins and fight one way…coming forward. Mix in the fact that it’s a must win fight for each of them and you have the recipe for a classic.”

“I always appreciate the opportunity to fight on the big time boxing event like this one,” said Maidana. “Throughout my career I have always heard I fight like the great Mexican fighters and that Mexican fans love to watch me fight. I will give them something to cheer about on September 15 when I win the fight and move one step closer to getting another world title.”

“I am very fortunate to be fighting on this card alongside my fellow countrymen Canelo, Daniel and Jhonny,” said Soto Karass. “We are going to represent Mexico well that night and I plan to be victorious against Maidana. I have worked hard my whole career to have my dream of being a world champion come true and I feel that with each fight, I get closer to it.”

Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs) has been a worthy member of his country’s fighting fraternity, but one look at his style in the ring will make it evident that he is not satisfied with one world championship. Maidana held the WBA Interim Super Lightweight and WBA Super Lightweight World Championships from 2009 to 2010, a span during which he stopped “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and defended the belt three times before losing it to Amir “King” Khan in 2010′s Fight of the Year. Maidana reclaimed the belt in 2011 with another classic against Erik “El Terrible” Morales, but after one defense, he moved up in weight to 147 pounds. After a loss to Devon Alexander “The Great” in February, the 29-year-old will seek his first welterweight victory on September 15.

Coming off one of his career-best performances on July 7, a blistering fifth round stoppage of Euri Gonzalez, 29-year-old Jesus Soto Karass (26-7-3, 17 KOs) looks like he has started the march to his well-deserved first world title shot. An 11-year professional who has collected an overflowing pile of regional titles, the native of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico has bounced back from a recent cold spell to defeat hot prospect Said El Harrak and Gonzalez in consecutive 2012 fights. The next mountain to climb is taking on former World Champion Maidana and Soto Karass has every intention of keeping “El Chino” winless at 147 pounds.

Tickets priced at $400, $300, $200, $100, $50 and $25, not including applicable service charges and taxes, go on sale Friday, July 20 at Noon PT. Ticket sales are limited to ten (10) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Pavlik beat the 25 year old to a bloody pulp. After conferring with the fight doctor, referee Jay Nady mercifully stopped the contest after the 7th round.
Pavlik, the former middleweight champion of the world look sharp and never appeared to be hurt while Sigmon was bleeding profusely from his nose and a cut over his eye.

Carlos Valcarel vs Jessie Magdaleno

Super Bantamweight southpaw Jessie Magdaleno ran his undefeated record to 10-0 with another impressive first round TKO over challenger Carlos Valcarel. After an eight count Magdaleno continued his barrage of unanswered punches before the action was halted by referee Tony Weeks.

Beibut Shumenov vs Enrique Ornelas

Disclosure: Ornelas is my wife’s cousin. From the opening bell Shumenov completely dominated the fight. Almost at will the WBA Light Heavyweight Champion was able to connect with body shots, combinations and
uppercuts. Most of the fight resembled a sparring session with Ornelas against the ropes his hands covering his face and Shumenov doing damage to the body and the head. Ornelas showing more heart than speed never showed any signs of quitting, but ultimately Shumenov proved much quicker and was clearly the effective aggressor. The judges scorecards were Burt Clemens 120-108 Dick Houck 120-108 and Robert Hoyle 120-108.

Daquan Arnett vs Yosmani Abreu

Arnett won a unanimous decision over Abreu in a four round fight. Arnett dropped Abreu in the second round with a quick left hook. The judges
scorecards were Bob Bennett 40-35 Jerry Roth 39-36 and Ricardo Ocasio 40-35

Joseph Elegele vs Lanard Lane

Joseph Elegele won a controversial majority decision over Lanard Lane. Elegele, a southpaw, came out strong in the early rounds using his height advantage over the shorter Lane to land jabs and left hooks. In the third round Lane was bleeding from a cut over the right eye. With a sudden sense of urgency Lane came out firing and had a strong fourth round. However, in the fifth round Lane went down on a controversial knockdown call when Elegele seemingly pushed Lane in the back of the head that forced the referee to give a standing eight count. In Rounds 6, 7 and 8 Lane dominated nearly dropping Elegele several times but in the end came up just short on the judges’ scorecards which read Bob Bennett 76-75, Lisa Giampa 77-74 and CJ Ross 76-76.

Ravshan Hudaynazarov vs Euri Gonzalez

Hudaynazarov out boxed and outpaced Gonzalez to win a unanimous decision. Hudaynazarov landed several strong combinations throughout
the fight and never appeared to be hurt. Gonzalez fought a strong fight but was
not able to keep up with the speedy Hudaynaraz. All three judeges scored the
bout 79-73.

LAS VEGAS (May 29, 2012) -
On Saturday, June 2 two of the talent-rich welterweight division’s top
prospects, Joseph Elegele and Lanard Lane, will meet in the co-main event of the
card headlined by the WBA Light Heavyweight World Championship fight between
Beibut Shumenov and Enrique Ornelas at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and
Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., both of which will be televised live on FOX Sports
Net and FOX Deportes, as well as on a delayed basis on FUEL TV.

Shumenov (12-1, 8 KO’s)
puts his WBA crown on the line against former super middleweight world title
challenger Enrique Ornelas (33-7, 21 KO’s) in the 12-round main
event.

Shumenov vs. Ornelas is
promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and KZ Event Productions and sponsored by
Corona and DeWalt Tools. The FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes bilingual
simulcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. FUEL TV will rebroadcast
the fight on Sunday, July 1, at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

Tickets, priced at $100,
$60, $30, $25, along with a limited number of VIP suite seats priced at $125,

A power puncher with five
first round knockouts to his name, Winter Haven, Florida’s Joseph Elegele (12-1,
10 KO’s) delivers excitement every time he steps into the ring and Saturday
night’s fight gives him a chance to shine on the world stage. A professional
since 2009, the 27-year-old southpaw is coming off of a controversial technical
decision loss to fellow prospect Aaron Martinez in July of last year, and he
can’t wait to get back in the ring and get back in the win column.

A Philadelphia fighter to
the core, 29-year-old Lanard Lane (13-1, 8 KO’s) may make his home in Houston
these days, but when the going gets tough, he is ready to throw down and make
his fellow Philly warriors proud. The owner of wins over tough competitors like
Dairo Esalas and John Brown, Lane bounced back from the lone loss of his
professional career against Mike Dallas in 2010 by stopping Milton Ramos in
eight rounds in March. Now he has his sights on a similar result against fellow
prospect Elegele this weekend.

Hudaynazarov, fighting out
of Las Vegas, is the reigning WBA FEDALATIN 147-pound champion and world rated
No. 15 by the WBA. Known as a devastating body puncher, the former
Uzbekistan amateur boxing standout and KZ Event Productions promoted rising star
who turns 28 the night of the official weigh-in (Friday), steps-up in class to
fight current WBO Latino welterweight champion Euri “Millon”
Gonzalez (20-1-1, 14 KO’s), whose only loss was to WBC Super
Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez, in an intriguing eight-round
fight.

Seeing action in a
televised undercard fight is rising middleweight prospect Daquan Arnett (3-0, 2
KO’s) of Orlando, Florida who faces Yosmani Abreu (2-2-1) of Las Vegas in a four
round bout.

Also featured will be
featherweight Johnny Reyes (1-0, 1 KO), from Lancaster, Calif., who will square
off against Uriel Torres, of Los Angeles, Calif. making his professional debut,
in a four round fight and Russian middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (6-0-1, 3 KO’s),
who now resides in Winter Haven, Florida, who will battle an opponent to be
determined in a six-round tilt.

LAS VEGAS (May 17, 2012) – Unable to secure a unification title fight against the other
175-pound world champions, World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Heavyweight
World Champion Beibut Shumenov returns on June 2 to make his fourth title
defense against former super middleweight world title challenger Enrique Ornelas
by phone at (800) 745-3000.

“I’m looking forward to defending my world title belt, especially on a nationally televised
show once again,” Shumenov said from his Las Vegas home.”

A unique boxing world champion, at least in terms of his background, Shumenov has
growing international appeal. The chiseled 2008 Kazakhstan
Olympian is a lawyer and boxing promoter who, along with his brother Chingis
Shumenov, owns and operates KZ Event Productions out of Las Vegas.

Two-and-a-half years ago, also at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas,
Shumenov captured the WBA World Title in just his 10th professional bout with a 12-round unanimous decision victory over former World Champion Gabriel Campillo. The win established a new record for a fighter winning a major light heavyweight world championship in the fewest professional fights.

Shumenov was scheduled for a unification fight on Jan. 8, 2011 against World Boxing
Organization (WBO) World Champion Juergen Braehmer in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, but
Braehner pulled out of the fight just a few days prior to the scheduled
event. To avoid cancelling the show in the capital city of his
native country, Shumenov fought former World Champion William Joppy, who was
slated to face another fighter on the same card.

Since capturing his WBA World title belt, Shumenov has successfully defended against undefeated,
mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Uzelkov (DEC 12), Joppy (KO 6) and most recently
Danny Santiago (TKO 9) this past July. The 28-year-old Shumenov
has defeated four world champions – Campillo, Byron Mitchell, Joppy and Montell
Griffin – as well as former world title challengers Epifanio Mendoza, Uzelkov
and Santiago in only 13 professional bouts.

“My goal has always been and remains to fight the best and unify the world light heavyweight
title.” Shumenov noted. “To do that I need to keep practicing and
improving with each and every fight. Someday, I hope one of the
other world champions will put his belt on the line against mine.
Until then, though, I am only focused on defending my world
title belt against the toughest possible challengers like Ornelas.”

Some present and former world champions have made overtures about fighting Shumenov, but they
have demanded that the fight be held in their respective hometowns.
To his credit, Shumenov hasn’t made a Kazakhstan showdown a mandatory
demand, despite attracting more than 30,000 fans there for a fight against
Griffin in 2008.

“All fighters dream of fighting in the boxing capital of the world, Las Vegas,” Shumenov
remarked. “I’d love to fight again in Kazakhstan and intend to do
that again someday, but Las Vegas is a perfect, neutral site.”

Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin, who serves as Shumenov’s advisor, has been frustrated by
biased media reports about major fights for Shumenov. “I had
discussions with representatives for a title fight
with (Jean) Pascal and unification with (Nathan) Cleverly,” Chargin explained.
“They wanted to fight in Canada and England, but we preferred Las Vegas or
Kazakhstan. Beibut’s the world champion and I didn’t believe those options to
fight in Canada or England were in his best interest. Discussions never got any
further because neither of them were really serious about fighting us.
Meanwhile, time had passed. Beibut’s layoff was no fault of his own; he wanted
to fight all along and patiently waited. Making either of those fights, though,
was out of his control. If things go right June 2, we’ll try again to make a
unification fight.”

Shumenov understands that, first, he has to get past a tough, hungry challenger in
Guanajuato, Mexico’s Ornelas, who has moved up to the light heavyweight division
after an impressive run at 168 pounds, where he owned the NABF title and proved
to be a strong challenger for Robert Stieglitz’ WBO title in 2010.

Las Vegas, NV (April 11) – Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez and Sugar Shane Mosley are deep in training for their respective May 5 bouts taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas which will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®. For Mayweather, being back in the gym feels just right as he trains at the Mayweather Boxing Club surrounded by familiar faces and teammates while Cotto is honing his skills at his camp in Orlando, Fl. for the second time. Meanwhile, at an altitude of 7,000 feet, California’s Big Bear Lake is playing host to both Caneloand Mosleywho are readying themselves to face off in the co-main event. While each of their training camp experiences are different, there is one common theme – Mayweather, Cotto, Canelo and Mosley are intensely focused on their approaching May 5 bouts.

Floyd Mayweather -Hard Work, Dedication…No Matter What

With less than four weeks until fight night,Floyd Mayweatheris feeling excellent. Mayweather’s training began immediately following the three-city fight announcement press tour, which ended in Los Angeles on March 1 and he hasn’t stopped since. It has been just seven months since he defeated Victor Ortiz and the short time between fights is better for the undefeated star, although he never really takes time off from the gym.Mayweather believes that brief gaps between fights are beneficialas they help him to stay in true fighting shape while keeping his skills sharp.

“It feels good to be fighting again,” said Mayweather. “I am getting great work from my sparring partners and the energy in the gym is perfect for training hard every day. I am aware of Miguel Cotto’s record and success. I am not taking him lightly. I am working hard to get ready for the fight on May 5.”

During camp, Mayweather gets to the gym around four o’clock in the afternoon and works non-stop until he departs at seven o’clock in the evening. He likes to mix up his training sessions with the heavy bag, speed bag, body work and jumping rope to go along with is sparring sessions. The one aspect that never changes is his hard work and dedication during every workout. Along with his gym training, Mayweather loves to hit the pavement and go for distance runswhenever the mood strikes whether it is the middle of the day or the middle of the night.

Mayweather will be fighting Cotto at 154 pounds, a weight that some believe may pose a problem for the seven-time world champion. However, Mayweather is not worried stating, “My body feels great. I always fight around the weight I carry when I am not fighting. Now I can just work harder to feel stronger and more comfortable at 154 pounds. I haven’t had to adjust that much because my body has always just kind of found its comfort zone and that’s where I fight. I have been given a special gift with my weight. I have never had to worry aboutit other than to get in the best shape possible for all of my fights.”

Miguel Cotto – Shining in Orlando

Training in Florida is nothing new for Miguel Cotto. The Puerto Rican star has prepared for numerous fights in the sunshine state with this camp being his second in Orlando.

“Training is going great,” said Cotto. “I am having fun and enjoying it more than ever. I love it here and I feel at home. I have the same focus and mentality to obtain a victory as I did when camp started. [Trainer] Pedro [Diaz] is a magnificent strategist.”

Cotto has kept the same company in his camp over the last few years, including his mother, who cooks for Team Cotto.

“I have the same diet as always,” continued Cotto. “My mother is with me, so you can imagine how well I am eating.”

When he isn’t in the gym, Cottospends his free time playing video? games, cooking and spending time with his team and family. There are also two new additions to Team Cotto, French Bulldogs named Tonka and Tika.

While Cotto’s team helps motivate him in and out of the gym, he credits his father, Miguel Cotto Sr., as his biggest inspiration to work hard and win on May 5.

“The memory of my father is the biggest motivation inmy life,” said Cotto. “I feel more motivated at this point than any other in my career. I feel more motivated to beat Mayweather than I did when I was training for my first world title.”

Canelo Alvarez -Big Star in Big Bear

WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarezis once again training inBig Bear Lake, Calif. While this is only his second time training on top of the mountain, he is comfortable there. He finds the surroundings to be a perfect place to get his mind and body prepared. Canelo admits that training at the increased altitude affected him when he begantraining a couple of weeks ago, but that now that his body has adjusted; he feels nonegative effects.

Big Bear is a far cry from Canelo’s Guadalajara, Mexicohome, but he is happy to be surrounded by his team including co-trainers Chepoand Eddie Reynoso. To pass their spare time in camp, they play billiards, watch movies, study film and rest as much as possible.

Canelo understands the importance of his match-up againstMosley and admits that without a doubt this will be the most dangerous opponent he has faced.

“Besides experience and knowledge of the sport, Mosley is a celebratedfighter and a future Hall of Famer,” said Canelo. “I admire Mosley, and it is a privilege to face him in the ring, however, on May 5, I will be ready.”

Sugar Shane Mosley- Home Away From Home

Whereas Canelo has just recently discovered the benefits of training in Big Bear, Sugar Shane Mosley considers the mountain enclave his second home. The six-time world champion has not only trained atop the mountain for almost two decades, he has owneda house there since 1996.

“It’s the best place for me to find focus and peace of mind,” Mosley said of his training camp. “The mixture of clean mountain air combined with the benefits of high altitude training along with the support of the local community here, it just can’t be beat.”

During his down time,Mosley likes to go to the movies, spend time with his son, Shane Jr. and bowl. Mosley has been a fixture at the Bowling Barn in Big Bear for nearly three years. He said, “It is a release for me, a great place to relax and spend time with the local [community].”

Looking ahead to fight night,Mosley says that he feels great and is in tremendous shape.

“There is a lot to be said about being 100 percent healthy leading up to a fight,” said Mosley. “Come May 5, I will be ready. I am sticking to my game plan and using the doubters and naysayers that are out there as my motivation to work hard.”
