Alistair Overeem Hoping For December Return

Alistair Overeem is out due to suspension from the NSAC for testing positive for elevated testosterone levels until the end of December, just in time for the UFC's year end show, and the top ranked heavyweight fighter is hoping to be able to fight as soon as his suspension is up:

“I'll be fighting again in December, and mark my words, I'll be back to get the belt sooner rather (than) later.”

Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test prior to UFC 146, as he registered a 14-to-1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio, more than twice the 6-to-1 ratio allowed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. At the April 24 hearing with the NSAC, Overeem's personal doctor admitted to injecting Overeem with testosterone in January, as well as providing the fighter with additional doses to administer himself.

The commission ultimately suspended Overeem nine months, and he can reapply for a fight license on Dec. 27. The UFC expected to host its traditional year-end Las Vegas blockbuster on Dec. 29.
