Dan Henderson: TRT Not The Reason I’ve Done Well

Dan Henderson has been around the sport of MMA for a long time. The former UFC tournament winner (UFC 17) as well as a PRIDE and Strikeforce Champion, has seen his share of changes in the sport. He was also one of the first fighters to receive a Therapeutic Use Exemption for Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).

The now banned procedure has raised questions as too what advantages it can bring a fighter as well as issues regarding monitoring of its use. Henderson, who will receive one last TUE for his upcoming bout against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in Brazil, talked to MMAJunkie.com about how he will deal with not using TRT and let it be known he will continue on without it:

“I’ll deal with the changes after this fight, said Henderson. “Obviously, I’ll have to.”

“I don’t think TRT has anything to do with my skills as a fighter. I think I get sick a little bit less and have a little more energy. I don’t lay on the couch as much when I’m on TRT, but it’s not the reason I’ve done as well as I’ve done in the sport.”

“I have no plans of retiring at all. I just signed a six-fight deal, and I plan on achieving my goals within those six fights.”

“Hopefully, this next year will be a good year. I had a bad year last year, and I’m just moving forward.”
