Daniel Cormier Plans Move To Light Heavyweight Division After UFC 166

Undefeated UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier has gone on record to state that he will be dropping to the UFC’s light heavyweight division following his next bout at UFC 166. Cormier will face Roy Nelson on October 19th and tells MMAJunkie.com that this will be his last bout in the heavyweight class:

“This is going to be my last fight at heavyweight. I wanted to start to diet and mover closer to the weight division where I was comfortable making the weight. I feel like I’m in that place now.”

On top of those reasons, Cormier also did not want to fight his training partner Cain Velasquez who is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion:

“It does have a lot to do with me not wanting to fight Cain Velasquez, but I also want to be a champion of the UFC, and if I’m not going to fight for the belt at heavyweight, then I’ve got to find a division where I can compete for the championship.”
