Floyd “Money” Mayweather Gets Reprieve from Jail … For Now

By Johnny Walker

It seems “Money” does indeed talk.

Those who were salivating at the thought of seeing Floyd “Money” Mayweather behind bars will have to wait a little longer than expected for satisfaction.

Mayweather Jr. had been scheduled to move into the Big House today in Las Vegas, but thanks to a late maneuver from his lawyer, “Money” is now free until June 1, 2012, when he will begin his 90-day sentence for domestic assault on his ex-girlfriend and mother of three of his children.

The logic behind the plea of lawyer Richard Wright was to allow Mayweather to hold a May 5 megafight in Las Vegas which, aside from making “Money” himself lots more of that, will also greatly enrich the coffers of the city. It is not yet known who exactly Mayweather will fight, though the names Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto, and of course, Manny Pacquiao, have been thrown around as potential opponents.

Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa saw the logic in that offer, and hence, Mayweather is still a free man tonight.
