September's Strikeforce card at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, CA has a new co-main event after officials from the UFC and Strikeforce confirmed that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir will move over to Strikeforce to face current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier.

The September 29th card will also feature Gilbert Melendez defending his Strikeforce Lightweight Title against Pat Healy.

“There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense,” UFC president Dana White said. “The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”
