Jones: I Don’t Feel Like P4P Number One Because Silva Lost

With Anderson Silva’s loss to Chris Weidman at UFC 162, Jon Jones has been proclaimed pound for pound king of MMA and although that may be something most would love to be able to tag on in front of their name, Jones doesn’t really feel as though he’s earned the title just because Silva lost.

The current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was in Toronto today to promote his upcoming bout with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 but was questioned about Silva’s first loss in the UFC over the weekend and how it felt to be the new P4P king:

“To be number one because of Anderson’s loss doesn’t make me feel like I’ve earned it,” Jones said Tuesday at a media conference. “It doesn’t do too much for me. It doesn’t feel real; doesn’t feel earned.”

Prior to being knocked out by Weidman, Silva had been fighting well but lowered his hands in the second round and was caught with a barrage of punches from “All American”.

“I just don’t feel like he was beat, I just feel like he was caught,” Jones said. “It sucks to see greatness go down in that fashion because of how he was fighting at the time.”
