UFC Likely Coming To Halifax, NS In 2014 or 2015

East coast Canada may be getting it’s first taste of a live UFC event within the next year or two according to UFC director of operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand Tom Wright.

Wright spoke earlier today in Toronto during the UFC 165 press conference and was asked about the possibility of the company hosting an event in the Nova Scotia capital.

“I think the chances of the UFC going to Halifax are extremely good, I’ve had conversations with the people that run the Metro Convention Centre there. I’ve had discussions with all sorts of different people politically down in Halifax. I think Atlantic Canada is a great spot for our sport. Halifax is a great sports town … it’s the centre of commercial business in all of Atlantic Canada and they are definitely on our radar.”

“We will definitely be in Halifax for sure,” Wright added later during the conversation. “If not in 2014 then 2015. The next couple years for sure.”

Nova Scotia is home to current UFC number one lightweight contender TJ Grant who will look to join fellow Canadians Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Newton as the only Canadian fighters to hold UFC gold when he steps into the Octagon August 31st at UFC 164 against Benson Henderson.
